Arrive Bang-Pa-In Summer Palace, built during the Ayutthaya era. The palace is beautifully decorated in both traditional Chinese and European style.
- Arrive Ayutthaya, the world heritage city and Ancient Capital City of Thailand. Pay a respect to Wat Mahathat, where is a typical of the Ayutthaya ruins: large crumbling stupas surrounded by low laterite walls and rows of Headless Buddhas. One Buddha Head is still in a tree trunk.
- Then transfer to Wat Phrasrisanphet, Originally built in 1445 as the king’s private chapel (the equivalent of the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok), Sri Sanphet is just south of the Grand Palace area. In 1767, the invading Burmese tried to melt the gold off the Buddha Statue, causing a fire that destroyed both the image and the temple. The Buddha you see today is a replica. Nearby are three Sri Lankan-Style Chedis, built during the 15th century to enshrine the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings. Then, walk to Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, one of the biggest bronze Buddha images in Thailand. The image is believed built in the early Ayutthaya period and was originally situated at the east side of the old palace compound. Later during the reign of King Song Tham, it was moved to the west side and the Mondop was built to shelter it. In 1767 Burmese invaders destroyed much of the Wihan and the image head and right arm were broken. In 1956, the image was repaired and the Wihan was rebuilt.
